With the closure of Limani Taverna in Woodbury, we have been looking for a new Greek restaurant. Add to the fact, that we have also been waiting for a while for a restaurant to open in the old BBG space in Williston Park. As soon as we heard that a new Greek taverna opened in this space, we could not wait to try Skara Taverna. Skara delivers on its food is quickly becoming a local standout restaurant. It combines authentic Greek flavors with a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere.
Skara totally redid the space to bring in Greek influence with a modern appeal. The seating is nicely spaced out and even better, they installed a bunch of booths which allow both comfort and privacy. The layout provides a nice balance of a vibrant atmosphere will keeping the sound to a manageable level. They really put a lot of thought into the space and décor.
The menu offers traditional Greek cuisine with a focus on grilled meats. I did not order the Saganaki but our waiter did tell me that they do deliver it flaming. You do not see a lot of that in restaurants in New York.

We started with the Humus and Tarama dips then proceeded to have Chicken, Steak and Shrimp Souvlaki Sticks. We loved each of these appetizers. You do not normally have the opportunity to order Souvlaki sticks as an appetizer in local restaurants. It was a nice treat. The humus was so good that we should have ordered some to take home. The souvlaki also killed it. Each of the sticks was tender, juicy, and infused with the classic oregano, lemon, and olive oil flavors.

We then had a crab cake and a half of chicken. They did not disappoint. The chicken was also grilled and was tender and tasted great. The crab cake was flavorful and juicy.

Since it is a new restaurant, we did expect some hiccups on the service. They made only a couple of mistakes. They forgot our zucchini and eggplant chips and they were slow to deliver our crab cake. This is not surprising due to the growing pains that most restaurants have. Our waitstaff made us feel welcome, offered recommendations, and ensure a pleasant dining experience. They asked about our drinks and whether we wanted another one.
One of the best things about this restaurant is that there so many other dishes that we want to try when we come back the next time. We just could not eat it all!
Our overall take is that Skara is fast becoming a star in the Williston Park food scene. They deliver high-quality Greek food in a lovely and warm setting. I will not be surprised if it becomes more difficult to get a reservation at Skara than it is at Limani and Kyma. We recommend that you come early and often.
