In Case You Missed It -- Rants of the Week

As I get older, there is one trait in my fellow diners that bothers me to no end. That is the Loud Laugher!!

Everyone in the restaurant is glad you're having a fun time, but no one wants to hear your loud, cackling laugh all night long. First off, what is so amazing in your life and conversation that you need to be loud and laugh through out a meal?

As a result of their loud laughing, I now am pulling into their conversation which disturbs my meal. I can not remember when overhearing another conversation is worthwhile. Typically, the other patrons conversations are just as boring as mine. So no improvement there.

Recently, I was at a restaurant where the menu was dirty with some remnants of food on it. I don’t know how food could get on a menu since when I order my meal, the waiter takes the menu away from me. After ordering, I have no use for a menu. So this is a mystery.

The real question that I have is why did the hostess give me a dirty menu. Was she away of the food or the stains on the menu? Did she not care that she was giving me a gross menu? Was she just lazy and did not want to either clean up the menu or find a cleaner one?

I have to apologize for this rant since it is not really related to food but something happened at a 7Eleven that really bothered me.

I was in the 7Eleven on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola picking up a Diet Coke and when I went to pay the cashier the soda rang up $1 more than the price listed. Now I can understand mistakes on sale items but a $1 mistake on a $2 item is ridiculous. When I highlighted this to the cashier, her only response is that the item is ringing up for this amount. After some back and forth, we walked down to the soda isle and the price by the soda confirmed what I was saying. She took the price sticker and it still rang up as $3 rather than $2. She looked at me and expected me to pay the inflated price. I responded on how can she expect me to pay more than the listed price even if it rang up higher. After apologizing to the growing line of customers, I paid my price and left.
