Rant of the Day — Why is Ice Disappearing in the Water

One of the first things I order in a restaurant is a glass of tap ice water. Over the past couple of years, waiters have served the water minus the ice. I have needed to follow asking for ice for the water. These restaurants typically bring a cup of ice. When I get a refill, once again there is no ice.

My question is where has the ice gone and why do the restaurants not serve ice anymore. Is it some green initiative? Is the power consummation too much to have an ice freezer. Do more people like warm water? Have we all moved to Europe where room temperature water is acceptable.

Takumi Taco — A Gem Located in the Roslyn Deli

I went to pick up a sandwich from Roslyn Delicacies and noticed that they have a new subtenant, Takumi Tacos with a tag line of Japanese style Mexican. With that kind of pitch, I had to check them out. It seemed that their emphasis here was on the tacos which looked really good.

Even though I was picking up a sandwich from Roslyn Delicacies, I had to try something quick so I decided to go with the Chicken Adobe Taco

Market Bistro — A Local Bistro That is a Contradiction in Terms

We decided to visit Market Bistro in Jericho to see what local beers they had. From our review of their website, they described the place as a farm to table concept with a rustic ambiance that will create an unforgettable dining experience. When we arrive, we decided that the people who designed the website did not actually visit it.

I would say the ambiance was more like a neighborhood pub. They had a great selection of beers and wines. Since we are focused on the food, we ordered a corn bread, then a meatball appetizer and the Grilled Octopus

Pio Pio Glen Cove — Not Up to the Standard Pio Pio Level

I am a big fan of Pio Pio. I have eaten at three of the their restaurants in NYC and I was looking for some good Peruvian Chicken so I decided to try the Pio Pio in Glen Cove. I ordered a Juanita’s Chicken for takeout last night and I was beyond disappointed.

The chicken was not only dry but it also did not have any taste. When I went to the restaurant, I was encouraged since they redid the old Claudio Restaurant’s space to make it light and inviting. The people were friendly and helpful. All positives.
