In Case You Missed It -- Our Favorites

Yesterday, I went to La Piazza for dinner and thought it was very good. After we finished dinner, we were talking about whether we would be coming back soon. Even though we enjoyed it (even more so than our traditional place), we concluded that we would probably not be coming back soon.

The decision was emphasized by the fact that 3 other pizza places opened in the last year near us and each of them was good and we do not go to these places either. The reason being is that we already have our go to pizza places nearby. Why would we travel further to another one? Why would we abandon places that we have been going to for years for a new place?

There was an article in Newsday describing the growth in reservation fees for restaurants. Basically, the article explains that more and more restaurants are requiring a reservation fees in order to book a table which is refundable if you show up or cancel 3 or more days beforehand. Restaurants feel the need to impose these fees since they claim to operate on small margins and non-shows kill their profitability. These fees can run as high as $50 a person or if they require you to pay in advance, one restaurants charges $275 a person.

A few things that irk me. Prime in Huntington imposes their fee due to a 1% to 2% no show rate. At a rate like that, seems to be that this a solution without a problem.

We headed over to the Union in Eisenhower Park. Our expectations were low since so many restaurants have tried to succeed in this location but failed. The entrance was bright and dining room was casual but elegant (which is hard to believe).

After seeing so many people posting about the Outrageous Pastrami at Five High Marketplace, we decided to track out to Huntington to experience what some people have labelled as the best pastrami on Long Island. They even claim it could be better than Katz’s.

Five High Marketplace was incredible clean for a deli.
