The Grill NYC – Over the Top Choice of the Power Crowd

We went with friends to dinner at The Grill which describes itself as classic, reinvented. A fascinating side note is that everyone still refers to the space as the former Four Seasons restaurant in the Seagram’s Building. I guess that shows how iconic the restaurant and space was and continues to be. The interior including the shades have been designated a landmark by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. The space is impressive and you can definitely see how this used to be the power lunch location for the latter half of the 20th century.

On the service side, you cannot ask for more attentive service. They took care of everything. I especially loved the table side preparation of our dishes. It was as close to perfection as you will find.

The menu is a classic American style with certain Major Food Group Flairs. There were so many dishes that I wanted to try but with only 4 people, we had to limit our choices. We started with a chopped salad. But this was after we had the most incredible bread basket consisting of pretzel sticks, sourdough bread and airy rolls. I had to gobble up the bread since it was just so good.

We also had the House Cured Salmon (in my house we call this either lox or smoked salmon) and the Tuna Ravigote

To finish off the appetizers, we had the Crab Cake and the Scallop with snail fricassee.

For entrees, we went with the Cajun Snapper and the Minted Black Bass. Of course, we had to try the Trolley Service Prime Rib which is the highlight of the menu.

For desserts, we went back in time for the Baked Alaska and the Bananas Foster Flambe.

We have to say that we loved everything. On the appetizer front, the standouts were the Crab Cake, Salmon and the Tuna. The Scallop won a bunch of points for the presentation but it ended up only being one scallop so we could not truly enjoy it. The crab cake was almost all crab as opposed to the way other restaurants serve them (with a bunch of bread filing)

On the entrée side, the Prime Rib was off the charts and the Cajun Snapper was not far behind it. These dishes just elevated our entire dining experience.

The only negative that I could point to at the Grill is the price. But you know that going in and you need to reconcile the amount of money you will be paying for this dinner. In the end, this is a major dining experience that you cannot get at any other restaurant.
