Return to Jalisco Cocina in Glen Cove: Lives Up To the Originally Hype

By David, the Grouchy Old Man

After visiting Jalisco Cocina in Glen Cove and having a positive experience, I wanted to return to see if they could equal or exceed our initial experience. I am happy to say that I was not disappointed. We went on a Friday night and the vibe was jumping. There were 2 birthday parties and the employees made it special for the patrons. They sang and brought out a sombrero for the event. While it may be culture appropriation by the guest. I do not believe in that crap. It was fun so enjoy it.

We started with a margarita and a beer. The beer was in a nice frosty glass and the margarita was in a true margarita glass. It has been a trend to serve margaritas in other glasses to reduce the restaurant’s glass options and to simplify cleaning of the glasses. But a margarita glass if fun!!

The Empanadas

We started with the Empanadas. Jalisco serves it up a little differently than other Mexican restaurants. The empanadas are stuffed with cheese and potato but the real kicker is their sauce. They are served with a chicken and shrimp sauce. This is absolutely the best sauce that I have ever had in a Mexican restaurant. If it was up to me, my entire meal would incorporate this sauce into every dish!!

Combo Fajita

We then ordered a Combo Fajita and a Taco, Enchilada and Burrito Combo. As to the Fajita, it had steak, shrimp and chicken. The steak was so flavorful that we wanted a dish of just steak. The chicken was cooked perfectly and it was complimented by the onions and peppers. The only knock that I could offer on the fajita was that the chicken pieces were too large. I tend to like smaller strips of chicken. It makes it easier to make a fajita wrap of the strip of chicken. If this is not a First World Problem, then I do not know what one could be!!

Taco, Enchilada and Burrito Combo

I have to say that the Combo was a perfect dish for me. It offered me a variety of Mexican dishes and each were filling. This did not stop me from finishing my whole plate since they were so good. As I said before, the hard-shell taco is one of my favorites since I was a child. I have heard that they are an American made product that is not an accurate Mexican dish. Soft tacos are! Once again, the grumpy old man does not care. Nothing beats the crackling taste and feel of crunching into a hard-shell taco.

I also enjoyed the cheese enchilada and beef burrito. My cholesterol probably spiked 30 to 50 points but I feel it is well worth it!

As I scanned other tables on what they ordered, the skirt steak looked incredible. I will have to consider that for next time.

Conclusion

Jalisco Cocina Mexicana and Tequila Bar in Glen Cove is one of the most underrated Mexican Restaurants on Long Island. They deliver excellent food for reasonable prices in a lively atmosphere. It should be considered as one of the best Mexican Restaurants on Long Island but due to certain inauthentic traits, they will not get the love from various restaurant critics. But for people in the know, this is a must visit restaurant!!
