Pearl Kitchen and Cocktails -- Some Good, Some Bad

After The George fiasco, I wanted to try Pearl Kitchen and Cocktails in Old Bethpage to see if it was any better. My conclusion was that Pearl Kitchen is better than The George but still not good overall.

It is laid out like any other bar restaurant with the bar on the left with two TV’ showing the applicable game. On the right and in the back are tables like you would expect. It is a noisy environment, probably on purpose. I say on purpose since there are no sound dampeners in whole restaurant. In my view, a fundamental mistake.

We started our meal with a flatbread and meatball appetizer. Of these two, the meatball was very tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The flatbread was a disappointment on the consistency of the bread.

We then proceeded to have a salmon dish and an order of wings. The salmon was bland. You could not taste the bourbon flavor. My recommendation is to change up the recipe and you may have a serviceable dish. The wings were served hot and they were tasty. I would stack them up to any other wings that I have had in the past few years.

With such uneven dishes, I am hard pressed to give Pearl Kitchen and Cocktails the thumbs up or down. In the end, you have to be careful what you order so I hesitate to recommend it.

My overall take is these cocktail bar/restaurants should stick to the drinks and stop pretending they serve good food!
