Local Grubber Weekly Highlights for the Week of March 25th

I was out with my wife at dinner at the Tap Room (which you may remember I thought was one of the worst meals I have had in the last decade) and she ordered a glass of chardonnay. It looked like they gave her a really small pour and when asked about it, they said that was their normal pour (more like a 4 ounce pour rather than the standard 6 ounce)

Just a few years ago, the standard wine pour was 6 ounces but restaurants are trying to shrink that recently to between 5 or 6 ounces. Why you ask? Money of course.

I just saw this article in which Visa and Mastercard agreed to pay $30 billion in settlement of an antitrust claim as well as agreeing to lower the fees that they charge their merchants. What this means is that restaurants will pay a lower fee every time you use your credit card to pay a bill.

Restaurants have been saying that the fee (sometimes as high as 3.95%) that they pass on to you as a customer was to offset the fee they paid credit card companies. So the question to you is will our local restaurants lower the credit card fee that they effectively charge you when the restaurant’s merchant fee is lowered… You can read the rest of the article Here
