La Ginestra in Glen Cove

One of my favorite local Italian Restaurants for many years has been La Ginestra in Glen Cove. One of the best meatballs that I ever had was from La Ginestra on a Sunday. I do not know why they only serve it on a Sunday but that is their deal. 

We went back on a rainy night to the restaurant that is located on Forest Avenue in a quaint looking house. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. You get the warm cozy environment in the main dining room. The only drawback that I saw was their need for sound dampers. We had a loud party sitting near us and it totally distracted from our dining experience.

We started our meal with an eggplant parmigiana appetizer and a Caesar Salad. The eggplant dish was the highlight of our meal. The Caesar Salad was good but missed the real Caesar taste that is lacking at some many restaurants.

We then proceeded to order a Chicken Scarpariello and a Veal Scallopine alla Ginestra (mushroom and sundried tomatoes). The Chicken Scarpariello did not have any real taste. Bland is the best way to describe it. I was disappointed with it. I have had such better versions of this dish. Recently, 388 delivered on how Chicken Scarpariello should be served.

The Veal Scallopine on the hand was season and tasted great. The veal was a little tough but not enough to ruin the dish. I hope that next time their veal is more tender.

In our conclusion, we enjoyed the meal especially the eggplant and salad dishes. We only wished the entrees were on the same level as the appetizers. We have loved this La Ginestra for so long so we do indeed to go back!!
