Americana Eatery and Bar, A New Wave in Dining

We wanted to try Americana Eatery and Bar, a new quasi diner located in Great Neck. It is the former Seven Seas Diner Space. They did a great job on the interior. Most of the credit for that probably goes to the former owner who converted Seven Seas to the short-lived Paros Grill. This was the best decorated diner that I have ever been to.

We were reluctant to go so soon after they opened. Restaurants always have to iron out the kinks in their service once they open. We went anyway. And they still have some growing pains. Service was inconsistent but we knew going in not to have such high expectation on that front. When I say inconsistent, the waiter messed up our orders and disappeared for a good portion of the meal.

We went for brunch. We had an egg white omelet and chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes were really good. They had chocolate pieces that were rich which made the pancakes decadent. Just the way we liked them.

The omelet was ok. Nothing special to write home about it.

My two major complaints were, first, they did not provide enough syrup for the pancakes. They provided the smallest dish that I had to ask to be refilled 3 times. If I am paying $20 for a pancake, please make sure that I have syrup to go along with it.

Secondly, the cost of everything on the menu seemed to be 25% higher than any other diner that I have ever eaten at. I seem to remember that the change to egg whites’ costs between $3 and $5 dollars. This charge is outside the normal upcharge for egg whites.

My take on the diner was the food was good but the pricing makes me wonder if it is worthwhile.
