Allegro Bar & Grill in West Hempstead
We heard that a new sports bar opened in West Hempstead and decided to try it out. Off we went to Allegro Bar & Grill which opened about 6 weeks prior. We were impressed with the clean, airy and specious interior. The tables were set up to allow people to talk without the next table being part of the conversation. Not my favorite experience when the next table is part of your dinner conversation.
Allegro also incorporates the Instagram culture that you see now with new restaurants. To start, they have the flower wall for people to take photos with. The strength of Allegro are their drinks. The specialties of the house are the spritzes and the Expresso Martinis. One item that impressed me was the Tini Tree, a combination of 3 3-ounce Expresso Martini’s. Unfortunately, we did not order that so no pictures. The table nearby did and it was an experience and photo worthy!
On to the food. Since they only opened 6 weeks ago, Allegro’s menu is still developing. The major focus is on the appetizers and some handheld options. We ordered the Empanada Calzones and a Caesar Salad to start.
The winner of the night and one of the specialties of the house was the Empanada Calzone. The Caesar Salad was tasty but I typically prefer when the salad has the dressing mixed in.
We then ordered the Marissa and Frankie Panini’s. The Marissa is a grilled chicken panini with smoked mozzarella. The Frankie Panini is a grilled steak, smoked mozzarella and peppers panini. The paninis were good.
We then finished off the meal with their Nutella Doughnuts. The donuts were good but there was almost no Nutella in them.
The challenges we had with Allegro Bar & Grill was the service. All of our food was served at one time and the doughnuts were not as advertised. I think that as a new restaurant they are still have some learning to do. Everyone at Allegro was super nice and we really enjoyed the dinner. So, we would give it another chance in a couple of months. We wish them the best!
