Main Road Biscuit Co. Review: A Comforting Taste of the North Fork

We were looking for a good breakfast place near Riverhead and found the Main Road Biscuit Co in Jamesport.  With biscuit in its name, what could go wrong.  We already loved the Little Gull Café for their biscuits so I am on biscuit kick.  Word of warning, the Little Gull Café often runs out of their biscuits so if you are not there by 10:30 at the latest, you can pretty much forget about getting one of their buttermilk biscuits!!

As to the Main Road Biscuit Co, they are a comfort food eatery at its best.  I was expecting a long wait on a Sunday morning but fortunately, we only had to wait 10 minutes.  This restaurant is deceptively large.  In addition to the seating near the bakery counter, they have another dining room in what I have to guess was the store next door.  Add to the patio seating in the back, Main Road Biscuit Co can handle a lot of people.

The vibe of the place is a coffee shop with distressed wood all around.  It feels very homey.  I would not be surprised if you go during the week, you will find people on their laptops drinking coffee and eating biscuits.

Encouraging, most of their food is cooked from scratch from locally sourced ingredients.  Given its name, the menu is not surprising that they have a few options relating to ordering biscuits.  Also, several items come with the biscuits.  The biscuits are definitely the star of the show along with the honey and blueberry butter.  The biscuit was light and flavorful.  This was complimented really well with the butter.  I could have made a whole meal out of the biscuits!!

We ended up ordering the Cinnamon Bread French Toast and a Cheese Omelet.  The Omelet was made with eggs from a farm nearby which satisfies their local sourced ingredients pledge.  The omelet was cooked so that it was buttery soft with a right amount of cheese melt.  This omelet made me think of a French omelet in its preparation and taste.  The sad thing is I am not a fan of this omelet preparation.  I like the American approach with less butter and more well done.  I will have to say that my wife loved it.

The Cinnamon Swirl French Toast was the second favorite (after the biscuit).  The brioche bread with the cinnamon swirl was almost perfect.  I wish they would sell this bread to go but unfortunately they do not.  They cooked the French toast to perfect.  Add in that they serve this dish with real maple syrup.  It works perfectly together.  The fake maple syrup that you get in other places typically detracts from the French toast and pancakes that they serve.  In fact, I have seen containers where they do not even call it syrup (I guess it is only colored high fructose corn syrup).

The philosophy at Main Road Biscuit Co. revolves around food that makes us feel like we’re home, and this is evident in the quality and freshness of their offerings. They pride themselves on making nearly 95% of their menu in-house, utilizing local ingredients from the bountiful North Fork whenever possible.

Main Road Biscuit Co. is more than just a place for biscuits; it’s a destination for quality, homemade comfort food that celebrates local flavors and provides a genuinely pleasant dining experience.  We highly recommended it for breakfast or brunch, especially if you love biscuits in a welcoming setting. Don’t worry about any potential wait times, it is well worth it.
