My daughter is coming home and asked that I buy her Sweet Munchee Cheese. I went to 2 supermarkets and a cheese shop and none of them had it. I asked and they all said that they have not received delivery in awhile of Sweet Munchee Cheese. I did a little research and the primary company that makes Sweet Munchee Cheese decided to stop producing it since the demand was declining.

For those of you who do not know, Munchee is a sweet, mild semi-soft processed American cheese from the DCI cheese company. DCI cheese company was acquired by the Fairmount Food Group in 2005. In 2011, Saputo Inc., acquired DCI Cheese Company Inc. The cheese also called as Sweet Munchee sometimes. It is a great cheese for sandwiches and wraps. It could be eaten alone as a snack or melted on omelets, macaroni and grilled sandwiches. This easy to carry cheese is the perfect accompaniment in kid’s lunchboxes, picnic and camping trips. Munchee is a certified OU kosher product.

There seems to be a quite an uproar online with the discontinuation of the Sweet Munchee Cheese line. I guess not too much of an uproar since they declined to reintroduce this cheese.

Now Sweet Munchee is a cheese of my youth before we used to eat the fancy imported cheeses and let alone before I ever heard of Poutine. This is yet another example of my youth being ripped away. We lost Radio Shack and Friendly’s (I know that there are a couple left somewhere on Long Island and in New England). Who remembers the fish fry at Howard Johnsons or Banana Creme Pie from the Jolly Fisherman?

I do not know what is next but I would hate to see them discontinue Mallomars which is a great blend of chocolate, marshmallow and graham cracker. The frustrating part of Mallomars is that they discontinue them during the spring and summer months. I dread the time where I doubt they are going to be re-introduced. But fortunately, they come back year and year.
