I wanted to show the love to underrated restaurants on Long Island. Everyone writes about the hot and new restaurants whether we love or hate them. It is the sexy thing to do. But what about those restaurants that have delivered for years and years and go unnoticed. I figured the least we can do is to highlight some of these tried-and-true restaurants.
We start with Jalisco Cocina Mexican and Tequila Bar in Glen Cove. It gets a 3.4 Yelp Rating which I think is unfair to this restaurant. This restaurant is a fun and vibrant one that incorporates traditional Tex Mex Cuisine.
Jalisco excels in delivering high-quality, flavorful traditional dishes. Their menu features a wide range of options, from classic favorites like tacos (including my favorite hardshell tacos and probably culturally wrong) and enchiladas to unique offerings like their Mexican Faldita and Fajitas.
The standout dish for many is the homemade fresh guacamole.
My favorite dish by far was the empanadas with shrimp sauce. We were surprised that they served potato empanadas which were ok. The best part was the shrimp sauce. In fact, if we could we would only order the shrimp sauce because it was that good. This could have been the most unique dish that we have had in a Mexican Restaurant. This dish alone makes coming back a must.
Conclusion
Jalisco Cocina Mexicana & Tequila Bar is not considered a special restaurant in Glen Cove. This is a travesty especially since Tocolo Cantina is rated above it. Jalisco offers authentic Mexican cuisine in a lively and welcoming environment. It is a must-visit spot for anyone in the area craving a taste of Mexico. We give it the thumbs up and say forget the trendy taquerias and stay with the traditional Mexican.
