Trattoria DiMeo -- Usually a Good Neighborhood Place

In our current environment, restaurants have been coming and going with more frequency than ever before (like Pietros in Roslyn which was only open for 9 months). Trattoria DiMeo on the other hand, is a longstanding Roslyn Heights institution serving up Italian cuisine. This family-owned establishment has been serving up delicious, home-style dishes for decades, earning a loyal following among locals and beyond.

The restaurant boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of a traditional Italian trattoria. You start off with a bread basket along with olives and cubes of parmigiana cheese. The bread was a little disappointing especially with the packets of butter.

The menu features a classic selection of pasta dishes, seafood specialties, and hearty meat entrees, all prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. We started with a Caesar Salad which was a disappointment. The salad was nothing special and we could get a better one from a pizza place. No need to order it here. For entrees, we ordered the veal marsala and the seafood fra diavolo.

The veal was not tender like we had before. But the seafood fra diavolo was the best meal of the night. It had the right type of spice and the seafood was fresh and tasty.

Trattoria DiMeo can get noisy during peak hours, but overall, the experience is considered enjoyable. We frequently go to Trattoria DiMeo and expect consistent food. This time, however, the food was uneven.

Overall, Trattoria DiMeo is usually solid choice for Italian food in Roslyn Heights except for our night out. I will give it another chance. If this was the only time I had ever eaten there, I would have to say it falls below the competition.
