Torrisi Bar & Restaurant -- An Italian Restaurant at Another Level

We were invited by our Friends to have dinner at Torrisi Bar & Restaurant in NYC. Torrisi is located in the Puck Building on the corner of Mulberry Street and Houston Street. My first impression of Torrisi was their attention to detail. They have a large piece of art that has the Puck figurine imbedded in it. Who think through these things.

We absolutely loved everything about Torrisi starting with the open kitchen plan and continuing to the welcoming dining room layout. The only thing we did not love was the dim lighting. But we can always find fault in something.

Our friends who had been to Torrisi and suggested that they handle the ordering. After having a drink, I was amendable to this. We started the meal with the Cucumbers New Yorkese, Octopus Nha Trang, Tuna with Pickled Caponata and the AmberJack Trapanese. We followed up with a pasta course of Tortellini Pomodoro and Cappellini Cantonese. For entrees, we had the Black Sea Bass Dogana and the Chicken Alla Griglia. And finally, our dessert consisted of the Frozen Yogurt, Baked Chocolate and the Affogato.

My first observation is that the cost at Torrisi is not for the faint of heart. That being said, everything was perfect and our food was overflowing with flavor. The most surprising appetizer was the Cucumbers New Yorkese. I would never have thought to order it but it was beyond good.

On our pasta course, I do not know why but my expectations were low for the tortellini pomodoro since it is a basic dish. But of course, I was wrong. It so simple it was perfect. The Lobster Capellini Cantonese was my favorite however due to the combination of Italian and Chinese cuisines.

My friend told me not to be surprised about the Chicken dish. He normally does not order chicken in restaurants since it can be such a bland dish but at Torrisi they do chicken in the most flavorful way. He was so right and we just ran out of superlatives to describe our culinary experience. Because that is what dinner at Torrisi is, a culinary delight.

We were not done after the entrees. Torrisi serves us an intermezzo which I acknowledge is a strange timing since all we had left was dessert. But the sorbet was incredible. Onto to dessert, my absolute favorite was the backed chocolate because it oozed of chocolate which complemented the raspberry sauce. I really felt like I would need to be rolled out of the restaurant but I was surprisingly not over stuffed.

My over thoughts was Torrisi is at a different level. Everything is so well prepared and served. They pay attention to all of the details and it really shows. The food is beyond incredible to the point that we have been talking about for days after the meal. I would add Torrisi to my restaurant bucket list.
