After seeing a reel praising The Chocolate House on Instagram, I decided to check it out to see what the hype was all about. My expectations were high after seeing it and looking at the menu. They had crepes, waffles, sundae and other chocolate related items (even a chocolate fountain). So off we went on a Friday evening had the following take:
The Vibe: Clean, Comfy, and Inviting
Walking in, the first thing you notice is how clean and well-lit the space is. There is plenty of seating, making it a comfortable spot to sit back and relax. Some might argue that the decor leans a bit sterile and lacks the quirky character of an old-school ice cream parlor, but that’s splitting hairs. It’s a pleasant, modern environment.
The Dessert
With the large options choices, we asked the woman behind the counter what was her favorite and what should we order. Her recommendation was the Chocolate Chip Lava Ice Cream Sundae as the clear choice. No argument from us since we like ice cream and chocolate chips and lava cakes. Everything in it was on our hit list.
The chocolate chip lava cake (or cookie since I am not sure what to call) it was a major disappointment. I expected a rich chocolate chip cake with a molten lava center. That was not to be. It was a tasteless cake that did not add to the dish other than taking up space on my plate.
On to the ice cream. We had chocolate and cookies and cream. This is where the Chocolate House delivered. The ice cream was smooth, rich, and creamy, exactly how they should be. They added some hot fudge that seemed to be made from milk chocolate. This created a major discussion point at our table on whether you could call a light fudge, fudge at all. For those of you who are keeping score at home, we did not agree on whether the topping was fudge or not.
The Verdict
The Chocolate House nails the aesthetic and the vibe, but the baking department needs to step up their game. If you go, maybe stick to other options (like the crepe) or my recommendation is to go just for their ice cream, because the cookie lava sundae just does not deliver
