I needed to pick up something for the holidays for a friend and I headed over to Schwartz Candies in Carle Place. I will note that it is not the easiest place to find. It is in the back of a strip mall on a side street. I guess if it was better located then more people would be buying from there. Good news for me but not for the store.
Entering Schwartz feels like stepping into a warm, sugar-coated embrace. While the décor of the store is nothing special, the chocolate smells makes up for it. You are met and enticed by the scent of melted chocolate and freshly made fudge. Unlike other stores, Schwartz’ is brilliant, they offer you free samples. Not a tease. Not a gimmick. An offer to taste their products magic immediately. I do not know anyone who can pass that up.
The staff are friendly and helpful. Once again, a breath of fresh air compared to other places. It does not feel like just a transactional experience at this shop. They seem to care about what they are doing and go the extra mile to provide you what you want and need.
I have ordered a multitude of items at Schwartz over the years and have not been disappointed. It is amazing that not everyone can agree on their favorite items here. A good many people love and stand by their Chocolate Marzipan. Their fudge is fresh and tasty.
But in my opinion, the best and true stars are their Chocolate Covered Marshmallows and their Chocolate Covered Graham Crackers. The Marshmallows come in 11 different varieties including Schmores (vanilla marshmallow with graham cracker at the bottom), Crunchmallows (vanilla marshmallow with toffee at the bottom), Vanilla Marshmallow, Chocolate Marshmallow and Banana Marshmallow. You have to taste them to believe.
Coming up Second is their Chocolate Covered Graham Crackers. You can choose if you want them in milk or dark chocolate. In my household that is not a choice. You have to go with dark chocolate. All of these items have high end chocolate that is not too thick and compliments that other flavors. They strike right balance between the chocolate and the marshmallow or graham cracker as the case may be.
My take is that Schwartz Candies is a Carle Place institution for a reason. They sell the best chocolate treats. Do yourself a favor, go to Schwartz Candies. Try their free samples, and do not leave without some of their chocolate covered marshmallows and the chocolate-covered graham crackers!
