I went to Il Mulino in the City along with my family so we were a table of 5. When the bill came, I noticed that it had a line for a large party gratuity of 20%. Since when is a party of 5 a large party? I have heard stories of people having this large party gratuity for a table of 2. Restaurants are reaching a tipping point with their customers.

Why is this a rant since my typical tip is 20%? Because they had another line for gratuity (not even listed as additional gratuity). The waiter did not even bother to tell us about the gratuity being included. I would bet that many people double tip when they go out with a few other couples.

I feel that this is adding to my tipping burnout.

As to the food at Il Mulino, it was excellent. Almost as good as the one in Roslyn.
