Who Was Worst -- Rude Customer or Restaurant Dropping the Ball
Bad Behavior All Around
I came across this Facebook Post in which a customer gave a restaurant a 1 star review for cancelling half their takeout order right before she was to pick it due to certain items not being available. She also claimed that the restaurant workers were rude to her.
The restaurant responded that the customer was the rude one and she called his server a loser and coward among other things. The postings are displayed below for your reading enjoyment.
My take is that I can not defend the customer (Chris M) since there was not any justification for being hostile to the server. It is not the server’s fault that an item or two that you ordered is unavailable. Try to show some civility! Stop being an entitled Karen (I know that is redundant since all Karen’s are entitled).
I do feel that the restaurant is not blameless in this encounter. Chris M placed her order at 7:10 with it being ready at 8:10, which seems like a really long time for takeout. At 8:00 when when she was already in the restaurant’s parking lot, she received a text that half her order was being cancelled. I have placed many a order and if there is a problem with a dish, typically they will reach out to me within 15 to 30 minutes from the time I order it. Never have I had an instance in which they reach out to me right before I was going to pick it up. This would create an issue for me since I would want to substitute another dish for the one that was unavailable. So I would end up waiting for the second dish to be prepared (or only picking up half my order). The balance of my order would then be cold. This would result in a bad dining outcome.
The last frustrating piece is that all commentators were hostile to the customer without expressing any kind of understanding of how frustrated the customer was. There was never an apology by the restaurant. I bet that if that happened to another customer they would not be so understanding. I do love how some other customers are so self righteous.
Don't get me wrong, I am not defending the actions of the customers, I just understand how she could be frustrated in how her dinner was ruined and the lack of apology by the restaurant.
