Pantano's Gourmet -- Even Better than Advertised

I have been hearing great things about Pantano’s Gourmet in Uniondale so off we went.

The layout is a pretty traditional one with the deli counter running the length of the store broken down by items to order like salads, panini’s and sandwiches. The nice bonus was the tables outside. I tend to be a sucker for outside eating.

Had the chance to speak with Mike Pantano when I arrived. A great guy. He was proud of his shop and the food that he served. The menu is enormous so I asked Mike what the most popular choice was (bacon, egg and cheese). Not my ideal item for lunch. So I planned on ordering a panini, but Mike suggested I go another way. On his suggestion, I ordered a meatball hero with vodka sauce on the side.

A great sandwich. What separates this sandwich from others is the bread. Good bread is often over looked but when you do have, you can tell the difference. It just takes the sandwich to the next level. The meatball and cheese were both tasty and when added to the vodka sauce bordered on the divine. I do not typically gush over my food (I tend to find the faults instead) but here, Pantano’s lives up to all of its reviews

I later learned that Pantano’s earned the best breakfast and best deli/sandwich shop awards from the Long Island Choice Awards. Congratulations and well deserved.

My conclusion is this is best deli sandwich that we have had and fortunately we agree with the Long Island Choice Awards.
