Giulio Cesare, A Redemption Story

A few years back, I tried Giulio Cesare in Westbury and had a bad experience. The food was mediocre and the service left a lot to be desired. I was with my family and they wanted to try Giulio Cesare and I reluctantly agreed to go back.

This time, however, both the food, the atmosphere and the waitstaff was at another level. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. He was right on the drinks and when I asked for ice in my water, he delivered. I still do not know why restaurants have a thing against ice cubes. The highlight of our drinks was their Apple Martini which I did not partake

We started our meal with Baked Clams and a Caesar Salad. Both were good. I do miss the preparation of the salad at the table especially with the raw egg. Those times are gone for good. Too many health concerns.

We followed that with a pasta course of Bowtie Pasta in an Ossobuco Sauce and an Angel Hair Pasta with Veal Meatballs. The Ossobuco sauce definitely stole the night with its flavorful taste. The veal meatballs was the only disappointment of the meal. The consistency and taste of the meatballs was lacking and as a result, a major disappointment.

Then we ordered the Veal Parmigiana and the Chicken Cacciatore. As we expected the Veal Parm was the winner on the main dishes. How could you go wrong with a classic Veal Parmigiana and a classic Italian restaurant!

Our overall impression is the Giulio Cesare is all about the food. The atmosphere harkens back to another period of classic Italian restaurants from the the 1970s. I was hoping that they would have a cigarette vending machine so I could show my kids how things were like in my youth. Unfortunately, this was not to be.

We really enjoyed our meal and would look forward to going back. We just need to make sure we order the right foods and bring our own party.
