Exploring Detroit-Style at Death By Pizza in West Delray

We'd heard rave reviews about Death By Pizza, so we were excited to finally try it out, specifically at their West Delray location. The first thing we noticed was the inviting outdoor seating area. Then, we realized their signage was surprisingly minimalist, lacking the restaurant's name. It definitely gives the place an "if you know, you know" vibe.
Death By Pizza specializes in Detroit-style pizza, known for its thick, square crust, generous cheese, and sauce added after baking. It's a style that emphasizes the dough and the caramelized cheese edges.

We decided to try the Eggplant Parm Pizza. The crust was wonderfully crunchy, and the cheese was rich and flavorful. However, the eggplant was a bit softer than we expected, which slightly altered the texture of the pizza. It's a personal preference, and something to consider for future orders.
As someone accustomed to New York-style pizza, I found the Detroit style to be a different experience. New York-style, particularly classic and Sicilian, tends to feature a more generous application of sauce. This led to the Detroit-style pizza feeling a bit drier to my palate. It's important to note that this observation stems from my personal preference for a saucier pizza.
Despite my personal preference for other pizza styles, I can confidently say that Death By Pizza delivers a fantastic Detroit-style pizza. The quality of the crust, cheese, and overall flavor profile was impressive. While I might still gravitate towards my familiar New York-style favorites, I appreciate the unique experience Death By Pizza offers. If you're a fan of Detroit-style, or simply curious to try something different, this is definitely a place worth checking out.
