How Does Ben & Jerry Decide Which Flavors to Kill?

I was in Vermont and I visited the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory.  It was a good tour but I expected to have a sampling of new flavors at the end of the tour.  This did not happen.  ☹

As I walked around the property, I found Ben & Jerry’s Graveyard of Flavors.  They dedicated a section for all the flavors that were tried and discontinued.  Each of the flavors were represented by tombstones.  A little morbid I guess.

What struck me were there a few flavors that I still do not know why they discontinued them.  Why did they stop making Fossil Fuel and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Frozen Yogurt.  Each tasted great and should be in the steady rotation.

Fossil Fuel

Tombstone Reads:

Fudgy dinosaurs galore

Got all dug up til there were no more.

A flavor re-design might be do-able

But Fossil Fuel is non-renewable

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Frozen Yogurt

Vanilla frozen yogurt with gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough

Tombstone Reads:

So now we know:  our Dough Fro Yo

Just wasn’t as greate as expected.

Folks who love Dough as well as Fro Yo

Love ’em separate, not interconnected.

How do they decide which flavors to kill??
