Jade Eatery and Lounge in Port Washington Does Not Bring Much to the Table

We wanted to try Jade Eatery and Lounge in Port Washington.  This location is the latest in the Jade Eatery empire.  It has been the rotating set of restaurants over the past few years.  I was a little confused with why they called it an eatery and lounge.  Most new restaurants would use kitchen and bar instead.  It seems like a throwback name.

Atmosphere and Concept: The other restaurants in the chain are known to be stylish and serene dining space. Unfortunately, the Port Washington location does not follow this same script.  It seems that they did not change a lot of the décor since it was a Mexican restaurant.  On a Saturday night, the restaurant was only half full.  Not the best sign for their longevity.

One interesting thing is that their menu is on a tablet with multiple sections.  That goes to show you how big the menu is.

Cuisine and Menu Highlights: Jade Eatery offers a variety of Asian dishes from different cultures. These items include traditional Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian food.  According to our waiter, the most items include their Lollipop Chicken, Steamed Dumplings, Rock Shrimp Tempura, Drunken Noodles, Chili Garlic Rice, Chicken & Broccoli

What We Ordered:  We started with theLollipop Chicken and Steamed Shrimp Dumplings.  The Lollipop Chicken were really good while the Shrimp Dumplings were bland.  I think that Dumplings were a real miss.

For entrees we had the Szechwan Shrimp and Hakka Noodles on the waiter’s suggestion.  The Shrimp dish was tasty.  The Hakka Noodles are a blend of Indian-Chinese style noodles.  I was little disappointed since I had such a build up from the waiter.  They tasted like Lo Mein noodles.  Nothing special there.

Conclusion  Everything was fine.  There were few standout dishes that would warrant a trip back.  The restaurant had a limited atmosphere.  Once again, I would not go out of my way to go back.  It seemed like every other Chinese restaurant.  I would wager that it will not survive long term in that space.
