Taverna Kyma Boca Raton — Great Ambiance, Disappointing Execution

We went to Taverna Kyma in Boca Raton looking for a fun evening with good food.  The space looks great.  It is a modern Mediterranean design, warm lighting and a lively atmosphere.  Exactly the kind of restaurant we were looking for. But unfortunately, the food and overall experience didn’t live up to the promise.

From the moment we opened the menu, it felt like Taverna Kyma was aiming high. Classic Greek and Mediterranean dishes, seafood specials, shareable starters — all the right ideas were there. But in execution, too many fell flat.

The Good

We absolutely loved Kyma’s hummus and warm pita that they served in a mortar like container.  We also loved the spicy whipped feta.  They were really killing it then.  We also ordered the Greek Street Tacos which was a lamb based taco that was in a light pita dough.  That was truly a great idea

The Bad

We then ordered the Prasini Salad and it did not have all the ingredients that we expected like Feta Cheese and Green Peppers.  To add insult to injury, there was basically no dressing on the salad.  It took about 15 minutes to get more dressing.  When we ordered the Baked Group Plaki, we did not expect it to be burnt.  This ruined the dish for us.

The Ugly

The worst dis of the evening was the Scallops.  They were overcooked and as a result, they were rubbery almost to the point where I could replace my tires with them.

Or waitress was extremely nice, attentive and helpful. The combination of lively ambiance and solid service should make Taverna Kyma a go-to choice for drinks and apps but that’s about it.  The entrees missed the mark.

Bottom line: Great atmosphere with a solid concept, but inconsistent execution, weak flavors, and overpriced plates make it hard to recommend. For Mediterranean or Greek food in Boca Raton, there are better options that deliver on both taste and value.

⭐ Rating: 2★ / 5★ — Worth going once to see the space and drinks, but not worth returning unless there’s a real improvement in the kitchen.
